What light weight tool can I use to cut tough African Love Grass?
I don't mind if I have to fill it often, but it would need to be strong enough to cut Love Grass covering a 3000sq metre block. I am not sure if I need a brush cutter or a line trimmer. The grass is up to a metre high with very tough stems and would tangle around the mower blades. If any one has had experience with this grass I would love to hear from you. Thanks
The brush cutters and hedge trimmers, tend to be rather heavy. I was wondering if there was a particular model or size that others have used that has the grunt but was reasonably light. If I could find a suitable model locally it would be great. I'm in Toowoomba Qld Australia
As you correctly comment a mower cannot handle this job, and I consider that a brush cutter would be the most effective. You may need a replacement blade (or to sharpen the existing one) to complete the job. An old-fashioned scythe would also be appropriate, if you know how to use one.

Not all brush-cutters are heavy, and the heavier weight is not indicative of effectiveness. I do not know which brands are available to you, but a visit to your local supplier will turn up the lighter models, which, in my opinion are much more wieldy. I have one of these, being old, and happily cut through blackberry bushes and brush. As you are a new user, take some breaks, as you may discover some muscles you have not used before ...
I would not suggest a hedge trimmer for ground work--too much crawling!
Often these suppliers have models for rent, and they also usually know of someone who wants an odd job. This may make it easier for you.
