Just built a monster pc, but its so noisy?
I've just finished building a pc that has financially taken months to finish:
Intel i5 2600
Asus gtx470 for graphics
Asus gtx 460 for physx
Antec 300 case, not the best but I like the design
The problem is the noise, its got 2 xigmatec fans on the front, 1 on the side, then 2 more on the back and rear for exhaust.
I love the pc so much but the noise from the fans is putting me off a bit.
Does anyone know a way to somehow quieten the amount of noise it makes, I was thinking some thin neoprene foam as a layer or something stuck to the panels of the inside of the case.
Anyone got any better ideas?
You don't mention the fan size..however high speed fans create a lot of noise. You may have been better off with the original 120mm,140mm fans that came with the case and there controller. you don't need to produce a hurricane in your case, just moving the air efficiently will do the trick. Good cable management, clear air flow from front to back, all help. Side fans are great to direct air between two video cards but in a single card set up their not as efficient, as long as the video card "intake" is not blocked. Yes the fan"insulator" spacer does work...for keeping down the "rattle" of a poor fitting fan, but cant reduce the high speed noise produced by the spinning blades. bigger fans at lower speeds can do that. You can try taping some air conditioner 1/4 inch filter material over the fans..this will deaden the noise a bit. The whole trick is to get maximum efficiently with the least noise. Having a "controllable" fan is a great way to start.
