Golf swing problem!!!!!!!?
I have been working forever to try and get my body in the right position but I can't I know how my swing should look but I can't fix it! It's so frustrating I can't see what I'm doing wrong! At impact my torso pulls backword and becomes vertical as a means to somehow generate power so instead of bent over at impact I am almost in a straight vertical line my shoulders are shruged up around my neck and both arms are straight at impact ( I know that the left arm should be straight and my right should be slightly bent) my arms are not ahead at impact! Please give me some advice I can't seem to find a remedy for this and my swing is really suffering! Please give me some advice I really want to play well in my upcoming golf season (high school) but I can't get this right and I find my shots being inconsistent
I have had a problem like this from ages 7-12 when I hit the ball short and always tried for extra power.
Here's a few suggestions that have helped me:
-- Upon starting your back swing, "sweep" the club back with a wide arc. This will allow for a wide shoulder turn and good clearance between your hands and your body. This should help the shrugged shoulders at impact.
-- At address, make sure your chin is not buried into your chest. Keep some spacing between your chin and your neck to allow your body to clear properly.
-- Feel like you are taking a "3/4" swing. Although the swing feels short, you will be going all the way to parallel.
-- Don't allow your knees to "snap" straight up at impact...drive down and through the ball, feeling like your right leg is still flexed at impact. Make sure you are turning off of your right heel, not the balls of your right foot...this will also help the leg snapping. You should use your left leg as a brace.
-- Feel like you are hitting through the ball, not slapping at the ball. Pretend that you are hitting three balls at the same time in a line to allow your body to stay down on the ball, which will also create a better divot.
-- At impact, your hips/lower back should move away from the ball, making your chest "press" down on the ball. This will help the standing straight up and will create better contact. Make sure your head does not dip down as your chest presses...keep the spacing.
-- The back of your left wrist should be facing the target at impact , slightly facing the ground. This will help you to get your hands in front of the ball at impact. You might want to try a stronger grip to promote this move.
-- After impact, release the club with as much extension in your arms as possible. Do not "snap" or "flip" your hands at impact; rather, roll your right forearm over your left.
-- At your finish, make sure your right shoulder is slightly below your left (maintain the same shoulder plane throughout the swing). This forces you to stay down on the ball. A good drill for this is crossing your arms across your chest and making shoulder turns as though you were swinging.
The best way to practice this is by going out to the course on your own at the end of the day to play nine holes. This way, the course is less crowded, and you can hit multiple shots on each hole to practice your swing without worrying about the score/holding others up. This way, the course acts as a driving range, and you will see your improvements more clearly. This is what I do instead of spending hours at the range.
Also, to focus on hitting the ball solid, try hitting shots into a net if possible. This way, you will not worry about the ball flight. Find your swing that creates solid contact consistently and bring that to the course. While doing this, set up a video camera if possible to see if you are executing your desired swings. Bring these videos to the course (using a phone or a small camera) and view them while practicing.
I know this is a lot. Break it down into the different parts of your swing. Don't get frustrated if you don't see the results you want right away. You still have a month or so before the start of the high school season.
Always remember that no matter how good or bad you are hitting the ball, your short game is what will make you a great player. You want to have a consistent long game, but an above-average short game will take a lot of pressure off of your shots.
I am a 0.8 handicap, and I am hoping to play college golf (Senior in high school). I have played in the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach with the Champions Tour Professionals on the Golf Channel. This is a combination of tips that I have learned from a good amount of great golfers.
Hope this helps, and good luck this season!!!
P.S. I am not a girl, just using my mom's account!
