Momentus Swing Trainer Iron $79.96 The MOMENTUS is a revolutionary swing trainer that incorporates a patented technology, whereby the clubshaft embodies most of the weight which is evenly distributed throughout the length of the shaft. The reason this is so beneficial in a practice club is because as a golfer swings the MOMENTUS, the evenly weighted shaft generates momentum. The momentum causes the club to swing along a balanced and proper swing plane. Through repetitions with the MOMENTUS, a golfer ingrains the feel for swinging the club on-plane. This leads to a drastic improvement in consistency and clubhead speed. The momentum of the shaft swings the club, so a golfer's muscles are stretched by swinging the trainer. Additional flexibility and strength are benefits also gained from swinging the MOMENTUS. It is an excellent club to use for warming up prior to playing a round of golf. |

Golf Swing Basics - Golf Swing Takeaway
There are sure to be many arguments about this, but in my estimation, the golf swing takeaway is the single most important part of the golf swing. Many will disagree ... others will say that the setup and alignment is most important, and others will say some other piece of the swing is more important.
But for me, when I start hitting bad shots, the one area I go back to is the golf swing takeaway. That is where I usually find that my golf swing plane is off from the very beginning because my takeaway motion is too far inside, or too far outside, or that I am too quick on the takeaway which causes me to get my hands out of position, etc.
The bottom line is that if you are off plane on takeaway, you are going to have a hard time getting it back on plane during the downswing. And this is is where many golfers make a bigger mistake - by trying to over compensate during the middle of the swing.
We all have our own individual faults when it comes to our golf swing. My biggest problem comes when I start hooking the ball which is happening all too often any more. And almost every time that happens is because on my golf swing takeaway, I start too far inside and end up swinging around my body instead of down the flight path.
There are lots of golf swing training aids that will help you correct these problems, but a lesson provided by my college golf 30+ years ago works better than any swing aid that I could buy. And it is a very simple swing thought that I still use today.
So back then, I was on the driving range with my coach and hitting the ball bad. I have always been a 'power fader' of the ball and when I play best is when I have my left-to-right game working. I was going through a phase of where I was hooking the ball - and I mean snap hooking - where I could even hook a sand wedge if I wanted.
After watching me for a while, Coach asked me if I ever played baseball, and I said yes, all my life. Of course I thought he was going to say that my hooks were because of trying to make a baseball swing with the golf club.
But then he surprised me and said - "imagine there is a catcher sitting three feet behind you, and try to hit his mitt with your takeaway". Well I started hitting some of the prettiest, crispest shots in my life.
So over all of those years, whenever I start playing badly, I think of that tip and make sure that my golf swing takeaway 'hits the mitt'. Try this next time you are having problems, and I think you will find that this tip will help you make a good golf swing on a more consistent basis.
