Momentus Swing Trainer Iron $79.96 The MOMENTUS is a revolutionary swing trainer that incorporates a patented technology, whereby the clubshaft embodies most of the weight which is evenly distributed throughout the length of the shaft. The reason this is so beneficial in a practice club is because as a golfer swings the MOMENTUS, the evenly weighted shaft generates momentum. The momentum causes the club to swing along a balanced and proper swing plane. Through repetitions with the MOMENTUS, a golfer ingrains the feel for swinging the club on-plane. This leads to a drastic improvement in consistency and clubhead speed. The momentum of the shaft swings the club, so a golfer's muscles are stretched by swinging the trainer. Additional flexibility and strength are benefits also gained from swinging the MOMENTUS. It is an excellent club to use for warming up prior to playing a round of golf. |
Golf Lesson on the Golf Swing Transition
In this Golf Lesson, we are going to discuss how to start your downward movement in your golf swing, so here are tips on what you can do.
Start your downswing with power and precision by using the right trigger movement.
To trigger the down swing, get the feeling that you are pushing down on your left foot. This will start a chain reaction that goes through the left knee, hip and shoulders. Get the feeling of a small squat as the downswing begins, with your knees flexing slightly more and your backside sticking out more.
At the top of your golf swing, your head retains its address position height, as you complete your turn.
Starting down on your golf swing, pushing down on the left foot creates a squatting feeling and just a slight loss of height.
Keeping the knees separated with a swatting motion will help the push down on the ground, thus ensuring that no power is lost.
Here is a drill that you should practice.
Throw a ball - Try an easy throwing drill to get the feeling of the correct sequence of the body movements. The sequence should start in the left foot, and then move to the knee, hip, shoulder and then finally, extension of the arms. The golf swing is no different.
Release with power – You wouldn’t throw a ball without transferring your weight on to your back foot and then transferring it forward. The same principle applies in the golf swing, so practice this and you will generate more coil, power and hit further.
One-handed drill – In addition to the above, try holding a club with one hand. Because you can’t generate much power with the use of one arm, you are forced to use the legs and body too. In the swing, it encourages you to start from the ground up.
Half way down the golf swing, set the golf club correctly so that when the wrists eventually unhinge, they generate a lot of club head speed. If you unhinge them too early, the club will be travelling at its fastest too early in the downswing meaning that all the club-head speed is lost at impact.
The lag in the writs hinge is created from the position of body and the squatting motion. You will find that both knees start to move towards the target and the hips have returned to square with the shoulders still and slightly closed.
In the next article we will discuss the golf swing impact and follow through.
