Which clubs to buy?
I went to the driving range today, and got a lesson from a PGA tour golfer. I used a 7 iron so I could learn the basics as it was my first time golfing. After an hour, I got the swing, follow through, and hitting down and through, down. He suggested that I go there and practice, and after a few weeks, begin to build a set. So i will rent some irons and drivers when I go, but when I start to buy, which club(s) should I start with (as in irons, driver, etc. not brands)? Then I would like to know which brands you suggest.
A normal beginner's set has 2 woods (driver and 3 wood), and odd numbered irons / hybrids (3, 5, 7, 9), a wedge, and a putter.
You can also get a used complete set of 14 clubs if you found one that fit you.
Brands are all over the place - knockoffs would be cheaper, used name brands may be the same price but have a couple of years on them. Stores like Golf Galaxy sell used clubs that you could hit in the simulator and they have a pro at the store that could help fit you to the clubs.
Best brands - Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway, Ping, Cleveland, etc. And each brand have several versions depending on howe much help you need. I love Ping G10s, but that is my preference. I play golf with friends who only play Mizuno MP57s, but they also play better than I do.
