Hi VW pals, I had an unconvinced experience to share on my Vw golf 1993 model ...............?
I filled up the cooling system pressure reservoire with water before going on about 250km journey, throughout my journey I did not experience any high temperature occuring on my temp. gauge, on arriving at my destination I spotted water leakage from the engine, at first I thought a water hose or something has broken, after checking, I discovered that the water leaked out through the hose connecting the reservoir to the engine with the clip/clamp intact and firm. On thinking back that my water top up might have exceeded the maximum level of the resevoir. Refilling the reservoir convinced me that not the whole water in the cooling sustem leaked out, I drove back with everything working fine again. My question is, I might be a lucky dude not getting a burst hose or something, Does water escape from such a place at high temperature without it registering on the temp. gauge???
Filled up is the question. If you filled it to the top, then the answer is yes. Overfilling the reservoir can cause a leak somewhere in the cooling system. If you filled it to the "full" mark only, Then that's another issue. Then it would be a weak clamp, faulty hose connection,or bad pressure cap. When coolant heats up it expands and being hydraulic it will find a way out at normal operating temperatures.
